Not All Readers Are Leaders, But All Leaders Are Readers

When you look at the most successful people in the world, or even the most successful people that you know, how do you think they got there?

Hard work? Sure. Discipline? Absolutely. Luck? You bet.

However, most hyper-successful people attribute their success to one great habit: Reading.

Think that sounds ridiculous?

According to Fast Company, the average CEO reads approximately 60 books per year. Don’t get confused, though. It’s not just reading that does the trick, it’s reading with a purpose.

Successful people are likely to read biographies, history, self-help, science, career-related and educational books. As the world’s best and brightest minds are idea sponges, they soak up the world’s best nonfiction and apply its wisdom to their own lives and careers.

Elon Musk has said that he learned how to build rockets by reading books.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg started his own book club in 2015 to challenge himself and others to read a book every two weeks.

The most famous example of the well-read CEO is probably Microsoft founder, philanthropist, and (once) the richest man in the world, Bill Gates.

Despite battling a tight schedule and a host of commitments, he manages to devour at least one book a week and advocates that anyone else who wants to be successful do the same. Heck, he even puts a list out each year of his top-recommended books to read.

So, do you still feel like reading is ridiculous?

Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.
